National Tuberculosis Prevalence Survey

Overview and Objectives

The National Tuberculosis Prevalence Survey, funded by the Global Fund Coordinating Unit of the Ministry of Finance in Lesotho, enabled the national tuberculosis (TB) program to gain a better understanding of the TB burden to identify ways of improving TB control throughout the country.

The survey achieved its goal of enabling the national TB program to gain a better understanding of the TB burden and identified ways of improving TB control throughout the country. The survey determined the national prevalence of bacteriologically confirmed pulmonary TB in Lesotho among adults. It sampled approximately 30,000 adults nationwide. URC – with its survey partners NEXT and AQUITY – worked closely with key stakeholders in the country.

This National TB Prevalence Survey and the information collected is contributing to the improvement of TB control and prevention interventions in Lesotho thanks to fresh and reliable data on the disease burden. The effort’s outcome is indispensable for strategic planning, policy formulation, and monitoring and evaluating national and international strategic frameworks.
