Five years ago, the USAID Defeat TB Activity (Defeat TB) began its mission to improve TB case detection and treatment completion, strengthen community systems to prevent, diagnose, and treat TB, and enhance leadership to control TB at all levels of the health system. The ultimate goal was to contribute to ending the TB epidemic in Uganda by 2030.

On Wednesday, Aug. 17, Defeat TB staff and partners will share in detail how the project, through innovative health system strengthening approaches, achieved so much – despite the COVID-19 pandemic – at an end-of-project event in Kampala that will be available via livestream.

Event participants include representatives from USAID, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. Department of Defense, Uganda Ministry of Health, World Health Organization, Global Fund, private sector, civil society, communities, and TB survivors.

Defeat TB has transitioned its activities to a new USAID TB flagship project, the Local Partnership for Health Services for TB Activity, implemented by the Uganda-based Infectious Diseases Institute. This successful localization effort – a key focus for USAID – will also be highlighted in detail.
